Who said it?
Jeannette Rankin (1880-1973) was the first woman elected to the United States Congress. A representative from Montana, she took office in 1917—three years before women gained voting rights nationwide. Guided by her deeply held pacifist beliefs, she voted against U.S. involvement in both World War I and World War II. Rankin’s courage and independence made her a lasting symbol of women’s political leadership and principled dissent.
